The
Story

This is not a sad story. It is a celebration of the success of Donut.

Songwriter Richard McConnachie (guitar, lead singer), his girlfriend Laura Murray (keyboards, backing vocals) and school friends Paul McDermott (bass, backing vocals), and Graham Brogan (drums) thought it would be a good idea to form a band that made original sounding, energetic, refreshing and ultimately, fun music.

What We Achieved!
q August 27th 1998 : First gig, Fury Murray’s, Glasgow
q
Donut then continue to tirelessly play the Glasgow gig circuit
including Nice ‘n’ Sleazys
q Late 1999 Donut’s first break : a TV appearance on late night programme “Young, Gifted and Broke”. It should be noted that Graham Brogan left the band on amicable terms shortly after this and was replaced on drums by Liam McAteer.
q Big name band support slots ensue, including one of Richard’s favourite bands: Clinic.
q Donut win the Nice ‘n’ Sleazys Battle of the Bands, during which they attract a hardcore group of fans, known as 'Do-Nutters".
q Donut appear on BBC Radio Scotland’s Sunday night “Beat Patrol” program and play a live session of 3 songs.
Unfortunately the radio appearance was one of the last things the band were to do together.
At approximately 12:00pm, on Wednesday August 9th 2000, Richard died from a condition known as cardiomyopathy; a tragic end to such a promising young life.
Being that Richard was the central creative influence, this signaled the end of Donut, the greatest band the world never got to see.
